a website for the conservative librarian

I sent an email to American Libraries back in
August. A response to a editorial by Leonard Kniffel. They printed it in the
latest issue (October). They contacted me a few weeks ago saying they were
considering running it and if I could give my town and professional affiliation.
Professional affiliation? SHUSH! They listed the web address, pretty cool.
There's a couple other good letters in there too. There's
no question there are a lot of us who think what went on in Orlando was unnecessary.
Whether ALA learns anything we probably won't know for a while.
I did get a couple of nice emails out of it:
You said it well Greg, as does the next letter. Amazing it got printed!
I just read your letter in the left leaning American Libraries (why do I bother)
and I was curious about your website shush.ws. I am very excited to see you
taking on such a difficult task. This profession is littered with liberal minds
and I am glad you have decided to voice you conservative views.
Thank you for your ALA letter. Your words were excellent; your thought was
provocative and your courage is an example for all of us. It's time for the ALA
to change. Your effort will help that happen.
Life is good...
Got into another debate over at LISNews today. It
can feel very pointless if you think about the fact that the election on Nov. 2
doesn't really decide anything. It will decide who is President but no minds will
be changed, ALA will still be ALA and our profession will still be on 'the left bank
of the mainstream'.
I will still be glad when the election is over (and
Bush wins). I'm going to take 3-5 days after its over and just shut everything out.
No talk radio, no blog reading, no postings, no TV news, zip zero nadda. I'm going
to finish watching my Magnum P.I. Season 1 DVDs and eat junk food and practice
piano and anything that doesn't require an opinion. Just another 2 1/2 weeks.

Blegh... a little too much nanny-state for me
overall. I disagree with both of them on immigration, affirmative action
(Mutt Nation!), and definitely Social Security though I certainly am closer to Bush's
view then Kerry's. Bush wins, but then he won the first two too. I don't really
care who talks prettier, its who is actually going to win the war.
Oh, and if anyone talks about my family like Kerry
talked about Cheney's, I'll pop ya. Doesn't matter whether the words are positive
or negative, the intent is sinister and oily.
